July 19, 2025 Kindred Adults Ministry

Did you know that 53% of all adults in the United States are single? Or that 45% of first-time marriages end in divorce—and the average age of a first-time divorcee in America is 30? In 1960, 74% of American households included married couples. By 2022, that number had dropped to just 40%.1

Surprised? Statistically speaking, the majority of adults in our communities are single. Possibly isolated and alone.

But God cares deeply for single adults.

Psalm 68:6 says, “God sets the solitary in families; He brings out those who are bound into prosperity; But the rebellious dwell in a dry land.” (NKJV)

Isn’t that encouraging? Whether you’ve never been married, are divorced, widowed, or find yourself in another circumstance—God has a place for you in His family: the church.

That’s why Kindred exists—to help single adults grow together as brothers and sisters in Christ. The word kindred is defined as “of a similar nature or character; of the same ancestry; a group of related individuals; one’s relatives.”2 Indeed, God has given singles a unique and meaningful place in His family, and we strive to live that out in a variety of ways.

In addition to our regular rhythms of church life and service, here are a few highlights from what we’ve been up to lately:

“The Chosen” Movie Night at The Blind Munchies Coffeehouse

At the end of March, we popped a whole bunch of popcorn and watched the final episodes of The Chosen Season 3. These Friday night events are free and open to the community, giving us opportunities to meet new people and open up conversations about Jesus. Stay tuned for Season 4 this fall!

Believers Church & Street Level Coffee – River Falls

In April, members carpooled to River Falls for a work night at the new Street Level Coffee / Believers Church space. Dressed in paint-stained clothes and fueled by pizza and Red Bull, we split into teams to help both the old and new locations—packing, unpacking, painting, cleaning, and removing window decals. The late night ended with ice cream and a lot of laughter.

A few weeks later, Kindred teamed up with the Co/Mission couples to help celebrate the grand opening. The couples handled the morning shift of postering and flyering the city, and the singles followed up in the afternoon. It was a joy to serve and be part of what God is doing through the ministry in River Falls.

Wiffle Ball

Later in June, Street Level Ministries challenged us to a friendly but competitive game of wiffle ball at Wilson Park. While we didn’t walk away as the 2025 Wiffle Ball World Champions, we accepted our defeat with humility and plenty of laughter. Our matching pink sweatbands and teamwork made the day a memorable one.

Camping

Most recently, we enjoyed an overnight camping trip at the church campground. Although the weather forecast called for storms earlier in the week, it cleared up and turned out to be a beautiful weekend spent together in creation. We enjoyed sitting around the campfire, going on hikes, interacting with wildlife, playing volleyball and badminton, eating chili dogs, and more. After breakfast and lunch, we gathered around the campfire to read and discuss the last chapter of our winter retreat material, “Embrace the Table.”

Community Outreach

The Kindred Adult Singles at Believers City Church are activated for the summer. We kicked things off with community outreach, joining with the One Life couples and Duluth, to clean up the parks and trails around Menomonie…

This year we added Believers Church vests, the Blind Munchies Coffeehouse Kiosk giving away free cold press and coffee to weary travelers, and flyers with information about Believers Church, Burning Dog Radio, and the Blind Munchies Coffeehouse…

After several hours and 45 full 50-gallon garbage bags later… we called it a day… Thanks to Duluth and the One Life couples for joining us!

Camping

The Kindred Adult Singles also went camping with our Duluthian compadres at the Believers Church Campground… We started a book on the Misconceptions of Singleness (including misconceptions about marriage). The introduction and first chapter generated plenty of intimate and honest discussion (both in large-group and in men’s and women’s groups).

We capped the camping trip off with a 2+ hour river adventure in tubes in the wind and rain… It was unforgettable. Good thing we found Noah’s Ark! Wait… is that Nate and Seth at the helm? And is Claire steering? Uh oh…

Coming Up

This summer we are staying activated… We have another community cleanup scheduled for next Saturday. Then in August, we plan to hike on the Chippewa Morain Segment of the Ice Age Trail near the New Auburn, WI… Our Duluth friends are welcome as always.

This Fall we are hoping to go camping one more time and cover a few more chapters in our book. We’d also like to sneak in one more hike on the Hemlock River Segment of the Ice Age Trail near Bruce, WI…

For community outreach, as the weather gets colder, we are thinking of promoting Friday Night Binge TV nights with “The Chosen” in the Blind Munchies and all-you-can-eat pop-corn… Is anyone interested?

More on that next time!

Fellowship

The Kindred Singles Fellowship has been enjoying some fall activities and hitting the streets as the weather quickly turns colder.

In October we took a road trip to Furgeson’s Orchard in Eau Claire. Nothing says welcome to fall in Wisconsin like a corn maze, adult pedal tractors, apple cinnamon donuts, and a giant spinning red apple…

Then to kick off November, we headed east of Eau Claire and to Big Falls County Park in Eau Claire. While there, we discovered two waterfalls, several trails, and some crazy cool rock formations.

Community Outreach

We also hit the area of Fall Creek with posters advertising our Sunday Services broadcasted on The CW at 10 AM weekly.

Upcoming Events

Toward the end of November, we plan to take a road trip to the cities where we will meet up with the Christian Singles Fellowship for some volleyball and hang out time. This will be our first attempt meeting up with another Christian Singles Fellowship, so we are excited and looking forward to it.

Then we will kick off December with a retreat at Camp Wapo near Amery, WI. This year we will be covering the small book “The Practice of the Presence of God” by Brother Lawrence. In years past, going through a book together has been quite personal and highly impactful. We are praying for another great weekend together this year. Download the flyer below for more info…

As always, please keep the Kindred Singles Fellowship in prayer. Navigating Christianity as a single adult has its own unique challenges… just as every circumstance does. May we all look together to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…

Prayer Requests:

  • Meeting up with the Christian Singles Fellowship for volleyball and games on Friday night, November 22nd. We hope we would be a blessing to them, and that we would be strengthened as we get to know more people who are navigating Christianity as single adults.
  • The upcoming Kindred Retreat on “The Practice of the Presence of God”. We desire an impactful weekend getting to know our great God.

Mission Statement

The Kindred Ministry Exists to provide a spiritual family for single adults, offering fellowship, discipleship, and outreach to our local community.

Fellowship & Community Outreach

As we turned our calendars to 2019, the Kindred Ministry hosted an afternoon of holiday goodies, puzzles, and board games in the Blind Munchies. We packed the place out as church members and friends enjoyed mixing it up for an afternoon of goodies and laughter.

Goodies & Games

The Kindred Ministry hosted a Super Bowl grilling tailgate party in February. Once again, the Blind Munchies was packed with church members enjoying the game along-side various friends from the Menomonie community. We served over 70 brats and 70 servings of super nachos. A few lucky Super Bowl Bingo winners went home with a chocolate football, a free BMC breakfast, and a sweet BDR cap.

Bingo!

Later in February, the One Life Couples Ministry invited us to mix our group with theirs on five bowling teams. We dressed up with team themes, and took to the lanes for some serious bowling! The videos below say enough…

Discipleship

Though we like to have fun, we realize if we aren’t growing as disciples, then we are missing the point. We entered 2019 with the book “The Holiness of God” from our Kindred Ministry Retreat. As we read and discuss, we hope to gain a better understanding of who we are, and the holiness God has called us to.

On that note, our Kindred members also meet regularly to read and discuss the book “Discipling” by Mark Dever. Our hope is to gain insight that we can put into practice for those we rub shoulders with in church, at work, in our families, and elsewhere.

Prayer Requests

  1. That we might continue to grow in holiness in our individual lives as image bearers of God.
  2. For greater love and service to one another, our church family, and our local community.
  3. That we would grow as disciples and disciplers, so we can better meet the spiritual needs of those we rub shoulders with at church, in our jobs, and in our local community.
